Review of Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo:
Exterior:The
300ZX was radical when first released. Its smooth and flowing design
was a major departure from boxy Japanese cars of the past. Almost
twenty years later, the design still looks current and menacing. The
twin turbo was an improved version of the regular Nissan Z. Styling
differences include a rear spoiler and wider stance. This body style
is unique because it was offered as a T-top which gives the advantages
of a convertible while maintaining the rigidity of a coupe that is
expected with a supercar. The unique look of this supercar will
certainly attract some attention.
Exterior:
Interior: Like
most cars of this era, the interior is a little barren; however from
the driver’s perspective this car is a dream. All the controls are
centered around the drivers seat including many controls right near the
gauges. The short throw shifter and pedals are placed perfectly. The
two seats are bolstered nicely and came in, cloth, suede or leather.
Some cars even had matching interior and exterior colors. Unlike the
regular Z cars of the time, Twin Turbo Z’s did not have a back seat
option.
Driving: The
300ZX Twin Turbo was recognized by every automotive magazine as an
excellent example of mid RPM power without sacrificing high end power.
This car certainly pulls hard due to the twin turbos. The use of two
smaller turbos, instead of one larger one, helped eliminate turbo lag
that can be infamous in supercars. Perhaps one of the best
characteristics of this engine is how easy it is to tune to increase
power. Many owners of the years have squeezed incredible amounts of
power and performance form this dependable engine.
The suspension in this car is very unique with independent adjustable shocks in all four corners. This car also utilized a revolutionary four wheel steering system that helps increase stability by automatically counter steering the rear wheels depending on the speed of the vehicle and rate of the turn. The system is only active during low speed parking, and high speed maneuvering when it is most beneficial. The brakes were huge for the time and are more than adequate for street use. The special setup truly adds a supercar feel to this amazing coupe.
