Review of Chevrolet Corvette Z06 (C5):
Exterior: The
Chevrolet Corvette is one of the most recognizable automotive shapes of
all time, and the ZO6 version only capitalizes on this fame. The Z06
is a performance package that improves almost every aspect of the
already insane Corvette. With a long, low and wide wedge, pop up
headlights, large functional air vents, four center exhaust pipes and
large wheels, it will turn heads wherever it goes. The ZO6 features
slightly different body styles, wheels and styling cues than the base
C5 Corvette. This generation The Corvette is an unmistakable design
that screams American supercar for all to see.
Interior: Unfortunately,
the Corvette is often criticized for its somewhat below-par interior.
Some of the materials may feel like cheap plastics, however the
interior is certainly driver oriented as any exotic should be. With a
high shifter and perfect pedal placement, it is easy to drive fast with
this car. There is plenty of room for two occupants, and their luggage
in the trunk. The Corvette even had some technological options such as
a Heads Up Display on some later models. There are no differences in
the interior between the Z06 and the base Corvette.
Driving: The
driving experience is truly where the Corvette excels as a supercar.
The LS6 engine used in the Z06 is an improved version of the LS1 in
base Corvettes. This engine features small changes such as new
pistons, camshafts, and increased compression. All together these
changes were able to bump power up 12%. This car can easily do
burnouts until the tires disappear. Not only is this V8 massively
powerful, but its front engine placement helps to lead to a perfect
50-50 weight distribution. The stiffened suspension in the Z06 leads
to an extremely agile, if not harsh, muscle car. The driving
experience is so impressive that the Corvette Z06 is often compared to
supercars that cost two or three times the price of the Corvette during
its production, such as Porsches or Ferraris. With neck braking
acceleration and balanced handling, the C5 Corvette Z06 is an improved
version of the premier example of a cheap American supercar.
