Porsche is a German sports car company that produces some of the most distinguishable supercars on the road. Porsche was founded in 1931 by Ferdinand Porsche. The first car it produced was actually the Volkswagen Beetle, however Porsche quickly became world renowned as the premier German supercar manufacturer. Most of Porsche’s sports cars are built in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, where they are assembled to the highest precision possible. By 1964, Porsche had faired well with some street cars and a few race wins, however with the launch of the legendary 911, the company became defined. The first Porsche 911 used a rear, six cylinder flat “boxer” engine. The body incorporated a long sweeping coupe shape with two round headlights upfront and a depressed hood. This basic layout of the 911 has remained in every version since, and in fact has defined almost every other Porsche model as well. The quality of Porsche products are recognized around the world. In a May 2006 survey of high income families, Porsche was given the title of “Most Prestigious Automobile Brand” by Luxury Institute, in New York. That same year, J.D. Power and Associates awarded Porsche the highest ranked brand in its famous Initial Quality Study. Porsche currently manufactures many variants of the 911, the Boxster, the Cayman, and the Cayenne. The Boxster and Cayman are smaller mid engine sports cars based on the philosophy of the 911. The Cayenne is a bit of a departure form typical Porsches because it is a full size SUV, however it still maintains the sporting nature that Porsche was founded on. Porsche’s main competitors are BMW, Mercedes and Audi for its cheaper supercars, and Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati and Aston Martin for the pricier Porsche supercars.
Porsches have, and always will, make excellent collector cars; however they are also supercars that can be driven on a day to day basis. Many owners make their Porsche their only mode of transportation which is an excellent idea because any Porsche will transform a boring commute into an exciting drive. All Porsches are engineered for driving pleasure which means they utilize precision balance and amazing handling to outperform most other supercars. Unlike many supercars, Porsches use relatively small engines, however the engineers at Porsche are able to extract insane amounts of speed out of their cars due to lightweight construction and perfect handling. A Porsche may not win on the drag strip every time, but it will dominate the road course with ease.
It is true that something as good as a Porsche doesn’t come cheap. In fact, many brand new Porsches sell for much more than $100,000. The good news however, is that there are many used Porsches for sale at much more reasonable prices. Why pay extravagant prices for a supercar? Instead let someone else pay the depreciation so that you can just enjoy your dream Porsche. Take a look at our suggestions below for cheap Porsches.
